States Sue Trump Administration Over Data Access

Twelve states led by New York announce plans to sue the administration of President Donald Trump. The reason is based on granting Elon Musk and staff from the Office of Management and Budget access to sensitive payment systems. This action compromises personal information of American citizens, deemed illegal, unprecedented, and unacceptable by the plaintiffs.

In a joint statement, the attorneys general of New York, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, Rhode Island, and Vermont highlighted the violation. They emphasize that, although Elon Musk is an influential figure, no one is above the law in the country. The plaintiffs announced their intention to take legal action against the Trump administration, which took office on January 20.

The Office of Management and Budget, created by Trump with the aim of reducing public spending, has been able to access the payment system of the Department of the Treasury. This occurred after the resignation of an official who was apparently the last opponent to facilitate sensitive data. The prosecutors assert that the president cannot disseminate private information or cut federal payments ratified by Congress.

The Department of Justice agreed to restrict the access of the Office of Management and Budget and Elon Musk to confidential financial data from the Department of the Treasury. The limitation is set in 'read-only' mode for two employees associated with DOGE, preventing any alteration, approval of transactions, or changes to the information.

A proposal that must be validated by Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly, who is in charge of the case initiated after the request of three unions for a temporary suspension of DOGE staff's access to Treasury data. The unions base their request on the alleged illegal acquisition of confidential information without justification or legal process. Additionally, it has been revealed that Elon Musk has hired inexperienced young engineers from government institutions to close the largest state humanitarian agency and cancel labor contracts in equity programs.
